Project: Symposium Poster

In this project, students are tasked with conveying the excitement of a symposium topic to its intended audience. The information itself must constitute the “imagery” of the poster. A viewer should be able to understand what the symposium content will be about, the calendar of events, and quickly learn who the main speakers are. The Symposium Poster challenges students to deal with multiple content levels on a single page. Considerations of composition, hierarchy, and how type connotes meaning through formal properties is given.

 
 

Project: LP Package & Animation

In this project, students redesign an album of their choice as an LP reissue utilizing typography or lettering as the primary vehicle for concept. The design should capture the emotional and intellectual spirit of the music, taking into account its formal and conceptual qualities. Consideration of formal elements—harmony, melody, rhythm, tone, and form; as well as cultural connections—genre, audience, and historical influences come into play. The addition of a lyric animation introduces a time-based hierarchy with type in motion.
