Growing up I was always interested in art and design, although I didn't really know what to do with it. It always bothered me when we went to restaurants and the kerning was off in some words on the menu. Little did I know I would become a designer and get to make my own kerning decisions. If I could give one piece of advice I would say whenever you feel blocked or stuck when designing, that is when it is most crucial to not stop and to keep going, often that is when the best designs come out.

Graphic design brings together two things I'm passionate about: being creative and solving problems. I want my work to help others. Whether that's making a process easier, bringing awareness to a social issue or simply making you laugh. I hope that people can connect with what I create. When Iā€™m not staring at an Illustrator file, you can find me drawing in my sketchbook, reading a fantasy book, or watching yet another travel vlog. I love going on adventures that could potentially inspire a new project or illustration.

My passion for design came at a really young age. My grandmother was a fashion designer so watching her work in her little sewing studio always put me in awe. I remember I would always draw dresses while she was working on a project. In high school I took some graphic design classes and that really became my outlet. Outside of design I really love working at a retirement home and volunteering at a woman's center. I love helping others and that really has helped me become the person and designer I am today. I also enjoy traveling and learning about new places and cultures. My advice to other people is to have a purpose in why you design, when your really passionate about something thats when your best work shines through.

Jonathan R DiRienzi Jr.

Jonathan DiRienzi is certainly an odd fellow, but all artists have to be a little crazy in a way...like writing a bio in the third person. Jonathan plans to stay local in Philadelphia after graduation and continue helping his uncle with turning the second office into a historical site and continuing the Bechtel House website that he started in the Summer of 2020. From there, he is unsure. With experience in animation, storyboarding and product design added to his belt during his last semester, he could go as far as the world will take him, that is as long as the world doesn't grow tired of him.

Riley Forrest-Bank

I am an artist with a passion for various mediums of expression including graphic design, fashion design, fine art, music, photography, and more. I hope to continue to challenge myself in my art and learn new ways to create.

Alejandra Hernandez

I'm a graduating senior, interested in pursuing a career in UX/UI later down the road. One of my major goals as a designer is to one day help bridge the gap between language barriers and/or work towards a solution that promotes adult literacy using visual aids.

My passion for art and design began during middle school and became an escape for me during my academic and personal struggles after being diagnosed with a learning disability. Being a graphic designer allows me to help other people and help promote change, and that is exactly what I have always wanted to do since I was a young girl. My time at Jefferson has been filled with so many memories, and I have formed so many relationships. If I could offer advice to the rising design students, it would be never to give up and always try new things that challenge your own creative mindset.

Logan Perrin

I am an open-minded and passionate graphic designer and illustrator who is centered on creating empathetic, and inclusive human-driven design.

I am passionate about illustration and package design. I enjoy graphic design because I can help make a difference and solve problems through a creative outlet. I have learned so much during these four years in the graphic design program through all of the various design classes I took. A piece of advice that I would give is to constantly try new things in design, whether that be taking a bunch of different design electives or approaching a project in a different way than you usually do.

Dawson Skipper

Dawson Skipper is a graphic design major. Originally, Dawson planned to major in math because he enjoys solving problems, but he discovered that graphic design used the same problem-solution approach and offered opportunities for him to express himself and communicate ideas to others. When not designing, Dawson may be found working on an old BMW, listening to music, taking pictures, or playing video games.

Art and design is something I have been passionate about from a young age. I always wanted a career where I could be creative, graphic allows me to do this. My favorite part of graphic is being able to communicate in a way that all people can understand. Outside of design I enjoy illustrating, and painting.

Being a designer was not on my list of things I wanted to be when I grew up, however being a designer was one of the best choices I have ever made. The VCD program here at Jefferson has taught me that good things take time. I hope that I can produce even better work as the years come. I learned that design takes time, even when its crunch time. Also that it is OKAY to take a break, having something is better than nothing. A goal of mine would be to work in Information Design and succeed in that. Outside of design I am an avid rower, and I like to paint and hang out with my friends!

As graphic designer, I always try to incorporate my fine art experience into my design work. My advice would be to set a goal for yourself and always put a piece of yourself into your work.

Senior Portfolio-05 - Maria Woyden.jpg

Maria Woyden

Hi! I'm Maria. Philadelphia-based graphic designer with the cooking skills of my Italian grandmother. I am passionate about design thinking, branding, and making other people smile. Graphic design is dream come true for me because I get to use my creativity to help others bring their visions to life. I cherish the small things and the big things in life, which translates into how I am able to capture the essence of what makes each project special. If I am not waist-deep in designing, you can find me exploring the great outdoors, baking and cooking for loved ones, or feeding my mind, body, and soul. I thrive on positivity, happiness, and gratitude. Without this mindset, I would not be able to fulfill my professional and personal roles to their fullest.
