D3 F22 Symposium
Annika Zitto
For this project, I world in a group to create a concept for a symposium. Our symposium was called “Charged”, and featured speakers and eexperets in clean energy. Then, we branched off and created our own posters and websites for the symposium. I took inspiration from neon lights, biology, and cyberpunk art when creating my designs.

In small groups, our class developed topics for fictional symposiums to create a typographic poster for. My group’s symposium, “Allying with Agriculture,” focused on how modern technology can partner with agriculture to influence America’s food. I created lines with the type of “Agriculture” and added dimensionality to create the imagery of fields of crops on a farm and added to this concept further by extending lines off the page. As part of an Honors Assignment, I created three additional items: ID cards, a tote bag, and a menu for our food tasting event. This menu features information about organic food, as well as a quiz about whether the food the guests tasted contain GMOs, with a key on the back of the menu.

In the beginning stages we were split into groups of three where we decided on a symposium topic. My group and I decided on a symposium for innovative energy named Charged. We shared the same information like keynote speakers, dates, and events that would be held during the symposium. I played off of the title Charged to represent a battery the top of the poster has charged very small and as you go down the size increases as a battery's life when it is charged. The word charged is warped to relate to energy currants and I used bright colors from my mood board to command attention. I placed the text around the title using hierarchy to control the order the audience would read the information. (same goes for the website)

Habitating Mars is a Symposium that explores the current exploration of Mars and the current technologies that would potentially allow humans to live there in the future. Speakers Like Buzz Aldrin, Matt Damon, and Elon Musk will discuss topics of space exploration, science fiction vs fact, and current technologies. The main headline for the poster was created using experimentations with a scanner. The shapes resembling elements floating in space are also pieces of the letters after going through the scanner. The additional Matt Damon Poster was also created using a scanner. Habitating Mars candy bars and colorful buttons are also for the symposium.

The topic of my symposium was crystal healing. I chose a pink and purple gradient theme to convey a feeling of energy and light and an aura-like glow. I also overlayed a crystal texture to add more interest and connect it directly to the theme. For my title, I designed my type to look like a geode, with sharp edges and a light to dark gradient. I decided to keep my information design neat and simple, as to not distract from the detail in the type and background of my poster.

For the symposium project I made a poster for the “Habitation on Mars” event. Understanding this event the mind map that I did was helpful in choosing a direction to go to. I explored some of the A.I. generated images that caught my attention and chose to follow the computer generated templates and grid structures to match the weird, unrealistic feel. The background image is also A.I. generated image.

Create a poster for a symposium event on a specific topic with guest speakers, and a schedule of events.

For my symposium project, I designed a poster about a symposium on sustainable fashion. I chose this topic because it is something I am very interested in and have been researching more recently. I cut the letters for the title, "Simply Sustainable" out of left over fabric scraps I have from clothes that I have cut up to make something new out of, or old clothes that I knew I would not be using for anything else. I used buttons as bullet points to go along with the theme of up cycling clothing as well.

For this project we were tasked with creating a conference event for a company using type. I created my poster around humans trying to habitat mars which uses my own created type for the title of the conference.
