Info F22 Data Portrait

For this project, we were assigned with creating a personal data portrait. The past few years, I have watched and rated hundreds of movies. I figured this data would serve as an interesting view of my thoughts on movies and my personality. My data spanned 46 films from four directors and 7 genres. The chart also shows whether my rating of the movie is considered controversial or not. Visually, my chart mimics a dart board to add visual interest and make the organization of my rating system easier to understand.

For my data portrait I decided to track the amount of times I said the words “yas” and “slay” in a week. I tracked these words by day, event, and location to determine the patterns in my vocabulary. My goal was to try to decrease my use of these words in professional settings which seemed to work as I became conscious of my tracking starting on Thursday and ending on Wednesday.

he project prompt was to collect data by analyzing & tracking an aspect of our personal lives in order to create a complex data visualization of the information. For my data portrait, I decided to track my sleep schedule during a 10 day period, and document the various variables that contributed to my sporadic night-to-night sleeping patterns. In this infographic, the four main variables that I tracked were the time I went to sleep, the reason I went to sleep at that time, the amount of hours I slept, and the quality of my sleep from 1 to 5 stars. The chart reflects a visualization of each nights' start and end times of sleep, as well as the length of my sleep via each circular line.

While looking into something about myself I could track for a week, I couldn't think of anything until I heard all the flavorful words coming out of my mouth so I choose to track how many times I enhance my sentences on a daily basis. I started by checking the time whenever I would curse and depending on what my mood was for cursing, If I was happy or sad or neutral and choose to curse. I noticed a pattern as I cursed more when I was driving to and from school and almost every minute at a concert I attended.

Our objective was to create data portraits, or data visualizations that revealed some sort of interesting pattern among ourselves. To achieve this, I have created a bar graph that depicts my guitar practicing habits at the beginning of the semester. To further enrich the graphic, I included visualizations for data points such as playing consistency, enjoyment, and song. Visualizing all of these data points allowed me to implement a vast array of. visual techniques, such as pattern, color, quantity, and texture

In this project we were tasked to track something that could tell a story about ourselves to the person viewing it. I notice that I always have songs playing in my head, most of the time on repeat, so over the course of four days, I tracked the songs that got stuck in my head throughout the day. Taking notice of how a song got stuck in my head was really interesting and there happened to be a lot of factors that affected the songs that played in my head. In conclusion, these four days in particular happened to fall right at a time where I went to Harry Styles’ concert, which impacted my results and made hot pink the prominent recurrence on the map.

This project involved making a personal data infographic, to which that data could potentially reveal trends or patterns, and thus tell a narrative. I collected data on how often I took pictures of my cat (Pepper) in 2021. The data is broken down by when, where, and the amount of pictures that were taken. I creatively utilized a radial bar chart that resembles the tail of a cat. My palette reflects a few colors that represent the coats/fur of different cats, along with a pop of pink, lime green, and blue. The data revealed to me that I took the most pictures of Pepper during the Summer, and the most popular locations were the living room and kitchen on the couch and floor.

For my Data Portrait, I designed a graphic about my academic journey as a transfer student from elementary to collegiate education. The background uses a composition notebook pattern to have the data stand out. The typeface and notebook callouts contribute to the academic theme of the infographic.

For one week, I tracked every interaction I had with other people, the time and duration of it, my relationship to them, and the means of interaction (in person, over snapchat, email, etc.). I then plotted the data on a chart, with the time of day along the x-axis, the relationship (family, friend, or other) along the y-axis, and the color of the bars represent the way I interacted with that person or people.

This piece is a reflection of a personal Data Portrait. The aim of the graph is to tell the narrative of the timeline of a college student and how often they clean their room. Not only this but the information breaks down the different items that may be commonly found in a bedroom space. The data from this graph includes a 15-day observation of a bedroom floor at the start of the school semester. There are also descriptive moments as to why there may or may not have been a change to the floor.
