Wayfinding
Project Description
Ashley Anousaya
One area of the school that needs better wayfinding is the parking at Jefferson. With an increase in students and commuters, it can be difficult to find parking, especially correct parking with the designated lots. I have created a system with bolder and brighter design to make more designated lot spaces. Along with this is an iParq app that accompanies the system and alerts users on how many available parking spots are in each lot. In order to receive a parking pass, users must have this app downloaded to account for accurate tracking of lot spaces and user data.

For this project, I aimed to create simpler navigation of the books in Gutman Library. My goals were: to make navigation of the Dewey Decimal System more accessible, create more opportunities for discovery, create accessible reminders of section categories, and create dividers custom to the Gutman Collection. The result is a set of signs, dividers, and landmarking devices used to make section identification easier at a glance. I created a color palette and coordinating symbol with a color designated to each of the major dewey decimal categories. The type and wood stain color were chosen to match Jefferson brand guidelines.

While the Ronson building has been added to Jefferson’s campus recently, the connecting building, Hayward Hall, has been left lacking a certain level of updates. Combined with the fact of the building being home to a host of various majors, it is clear that Hayward is in need of an update to help the rooms be better identified. A proposed solution to this would be updated signage centered around identification and direction.
