XGD Numeral
Ashley Anousaya
When deciding what numeral and space I wanted I thought of angel numbers and how they hold different meanings. I thought of the number 8 and how it represents order and juxtaposed this with the chaos of an airport. This numeral serves as art installation in an airport where people can interact with like steps to have a space for balance and harmony. The 8 represents positivity and a nice area to let your mind wander and find peace in a place where there can be lots of tensions and stress. The piece is made out of laser cut acrylic layered on top of each other to create technically two versions of the staircase.

I created this 3D 8 when thinking of how to use a numeral to represent a trail or nature park. I wanted the numeral to have natural elements, but also show a connection to humans in it's design. I ended up with a holey 8 form made of concrete, which plants could eventually “grow” to take over.

Designed with libraries in mind, these bookends were my first exploration with 3D modeling and printing. The assignment itself was to make a 3D numeral with an industry and three attributes in mind. For this, I chose recreation (a library) and the attributes of sharp, rounded, and multifunctional. This led to many explorations of how to break up the number three, eventually landing on splitting it in half to create sharp and round pieces with the two sections having the multifunctional use of bookends. I then created lines in the three itself to mimic bookshelves, and painted it red for an eye-catching color amongst the rows of books.
