This is a collection catalog featuring my mom’s houseplants. Instead of relying on photography, I chose to illustrate the collection to allow for more layout experimentation. This decision inspired the rest of my design choices as I imitated botanical illustrations, botany journals, and old plant & seed catalogs. For the same reason, I focused on including the historical and cultural significance of each plant. The amount of information I had for each plant inspired a variety of layouts and different ways of presenting the information.

My catalog is based on a collection of some of my favorite songs that I enjoy. Along with data and information on each song there are collages based around the lyrics of the song itself as well as the scenes and associations that come to my mind while listening. Featured in the data portion are various values in both a written and visual format so that they can be more digestible as well as the spotify codes for each song so that the reader can listen to the music as they flip through the catalog. The collages are not the only interpretation of each song as I also created logos for each based on the same concepts as the collages as a way to create both a simple and detailed identity for each page.

The catalogue is based off of my personal collection of Little League World Series Pins.I used lots of imagery of the baseball players and incorporated it in with the type to provide visually pleasing pages.

This project focused on a collection of our choice, but more importantly its significance. We had to pay attention to multiple visual qualities consisting of typography, color, textures, sizes, shapes and language. Some areas that I was able to explore in my collection include history, economics, culture and social impacts. I chose to showcase my mothers antique Rooster & Rose collection. I made sure to choose type that represented the time that this specific collection was produced and the styles of the collection itself. I also pulled colors from the actual pieces to create my final color palette. The type, colors, information and imagery all work together cohesively to showcase my mothers Rooster & Rose collection.

My Collection book shows off my love for frisbee and the sheer amount of frisbees i have. with this project i first drew out the basic layout of my book, i then went on to take pictures of all my frisbees while also creating some graphics to explain some fundamentals of frisbee. I had some troubles with my graphics with the viewing angles and color theme aspects of my graphics.

The problem presented to the class was to design a collection book based on something we all have or do collect. We had to incorporate a story within the book as well. I chose to do my catalog on my Star Wars figures and related the premise of the story to bonding, as my brother and I collect figures as a form of Brother Bonding.

In this assignment, the task was to take a collection we own and put it into the format of an exhibition catalog. My idea of showcasing my record collection came to mind immediately, being both my largest collection and being something I already wanted to sort through/find a unique way to display. However, with this decision came the roadbump of just exactly how I was going to sort it. I ended up with two main categories, decades and colored vinyl. This made the most sense for the collection, having a large range in time for the records and wanting to have a colorful book. I also wanted to incorporate the personal meaning my collection has to me, and I did this through the use of personal stories on special circular “highlights” pages. These pages, plus a square format and the use of pockets in between pages, allowed me to form my book after a record and its sleeve.

My collection catalog shows off my collection of refrigerator magnets. I knew from the start that I wanted the catalog to resemble a fridge. The cover of this book looks like the front of a fridge paired with moveable type for user interaction. For the typography, I decided to have Cooper Black as my main type to resemble nostalgic alphabet magnets. For the body copy, I used Trade Gothic to compliment Cooper Black. I made the magnets take up most of the pages/spreads to show off their individual details and make them the first thing viewers see. Each magnet is attached to a memory, so I paired imagery from different trips/moments with the according magnet. Each picture is a little bit shifted to keep with that organic feel of imagery on a fridge. I then created a color palette for each chapter of the catalogue so the reader has another indicator of where they are in the book. Each spread has one side of fridge texture and the other side with its according color, to give the book balance.

Our class created Collection Catalogs to show something that we collect in a more exciting visual. My collection is Squishmallows, a squishy stuffed animal brand that has over 500 to collect. My collection, having over 40 now, is filled with adorable characters with all different personalities. With all different sizes, designs, and personalities, I love collecting these stuffies and loved creating this catalog to display them.

"For my Catalog Collection project, I chose to document my little brother's pipe cleaner monster collection. Designing a catalog to be fun while maintaining a design system for the catalog items was a challenge, but using fun layouts for each page helped to make the content entertaining for a younger age group as well as adults."

For this assignment I chose to showcase my Walt Disney World Pin collection. I decided to use a retro color palette to reference the parks older structures from its opening in 1971. In order to separate the sections while still maintaining the color palette I assigned each a main color or two. This gives it a cohesive theme while also defining which section of the book the viewer is looking at. I also used some natural wave forms throughout the book to represent the roller coasters in the parks as well as making the aesthetic of the book more playful.
