Designing a set of three icons based on a research map of an object. I wanted to use the cotton swab in a context that is different than its original intention (infant care) by creating an instructional set of icons for a at-home sample collection test kit.

For my first project, I created a system of three icons that referred to my object research map. We were expected to chose a setting, physical or digital environment, to design these icons for. My chosen topic was creating blotting paper icons based off of the coffee filter I was assigned. This was post the gestalt principals discussion, so the icons were simple and in black and white. They relate by using similar visual cues and language in order to hold together as a system and I placed it onto a beauty packaging mockup to communicate my ideas even further.

I created a system of three icons to represent office supplies. I then used those icons to create a unique packaging design for those products. My design is simplistic and uses gestalt principles. The logos I created are easily understood by any audience and work together.

We needed to take our random object and come up with a concept and system of icons. Our system of icons needed to represent a function in a setting of our choice. The icons needed to communicate a cohesive intent. I took my object of a ping pong ball and brought the broader concept of table tennis/ping pong and overall bar/arcade game group. I created icons on Adobe Illustrator to represent ping pong, billiards, and foosball. I used them in context on a bar sign to show the games that are included in the place to try to draw customers in.

For this project, I was tasked with creating an icon system. We had to choose an environment for the icons to live as well as a purpose for them. I originally wanted my icons to be used for signage in an arts and crafts store. However, the environment I ended up choosing was a DIY craft knitting box. The icons would be printed on the box to show what is included inside and what the result of knitting would be.

The purpose of this project was to create icons that represented the function and concept of an object. Also, the project was focusing on illustrating 3 icons and chose a proper physical setting for them. In the project, a research map was created and to gather information about drinking straw. The three icons that were illustrated in this project were 3 different kinds of drinks, but all of them had straw. The chosen setting for the three icons was a bar menu. Different types of gestalt principles were used like figure-ground and closure.

For the Icon Project I created a system for laundry on college campuses, I made a poster that breaks down each step of washing clothes. This would be a solution for students that move on campus and may not know how to use the washer machines on campus.
