This project was combo’d with the collection catalog project. We had to take our book and create it into a working website. When creating this website in Figma I wanted to have it very similar to the collection book. Hence why I kept the same essay and collection name. Also I kept a lot of similar elements. Something I had to do differently here was design it for a slim laptop and not a wider book.

I created a Collection Book showcasing my cousin's rubber duck collection. In my essay I talked about how rubber ducks first became famous, pop culture, collectibility, and a couple other points. I named the book "What the Duck". I combined illustration and photography through the layout of my book. For the collection I wanted to make it feel as the ducks were in a pond with the blue and green text bubbles. I also illustrated some lily pads to put throughout the collection.

For this project, we had to deal with large portions of type while showcasing a collection of our choice. Gems Across Generations is a detailed collection of jewelry passed down 5 generations in my family. I created a Collection Catalog and Website to document the whole collection as well as a storied history of jewelry and the evolution of rings found during research. To create a timeless collection, I utilized both elegant type and original photography.

My collection catalog is all about the fortunes you receive from fortune cookies at Chinese restaurants. During research in the early stages of the project, I learned that fortune cookies did not originate in China, but in Kyoto, Japan. This information guided my creative decisions as I did not want to get stuck using stereotypical design that you often see used in Chinese restaurants. I used a limited color palette since the fortune cookie itself is very simple, and utilized a typeface for the entirety of the catalog that reminded me of the type shown on a fortune.
