D2 Zine 24
Deanna Brown
I received a box of silver construction nails in my Icon Project, so my 12-page zine story had to connect to nails somehow. I chose "Punk Rock" as my topic through the following system: nails - metal - heavy metal - rock - punk rock. My spreads symbolize 5-year time periods displaying the evolution of punk rock from 1975-2000. I created a collage for each period using 4-5 of the top punk rock bands of that period. Since we connected our topic to our icon project, I chose to pair the collages with an icon system that stood for a band from the matching time. The name of each band is flipped upside down at the bottom to simulate a guessing game for rock fans.

For this project, we had to refer to our object from the beginning of the semester and create a collection of 12 images/drawings that told a story. My object was a pink hair roller and the direction I decided to go with was a narrative of all things pink. I also created transitions and interactions between the two halves of each spread.

We had to work with the item we were given at the beginning of the year for inspiration. My item was measuring cups.

For this project, students were asked to create a Zine tying back to the object we selected in the beginning of the semester. With my object being a straw I went down the route of pollution and the effect that copious amounts of trash has on the environment. Each spread includes vector graphics created on Adobe Illustrator on top of digitally drawn backgrounds created on Adobe Fresco. The story follows what happens to the trash after we throw it out, giving a call to action to those flipping through.

In this project, I wanted to capture a date night using purely photography with post processing. I placed certain pictures at certain angles and different scales to get a more aesthetic feel with a bit of abstraction.

For our third project, we made a zine that continues the making process from our objects. Loosely narrative, my storyline was about how the thread evolved. In the beginning, it starts with animal skin and then at the end, it ends with different types of threads. The design is made entirely out of thread on a lightbox, which shows how loose I have put down the natural curves and twists it makes. That was the only challenging part because it takes patience to get the right shape and form I needed to have but overall, the rest of the other designs were photoshopped except for the thread. Promise you it is NOT in pencil form :).

For this project, I had to create a zine based off of the object I was assigned. My object was a brillo pad and I decided to create a mystery story. Since a brillo pad is used to clean, I wanted to do the opposite of clean and make it dirty. My story is made up of close ups of a person going through their normal routine up until the end. I also created an element of color coming into the drawings gradually as you look at the story.
