Did You Know?!?

In a world where we have access to endless amounts of information, certain truths stand out—capturing our attention, challenging our perceptions, and motivating us to take action. A well-chosen fact can do more than just inform—it can provoke thought, spark conversations, and drive meaningful actions. This project explores the power that these facts have to surprise, delight, educate, and inspire others.

Did you know that all the world’s bacteria stacked on top of each other would stretch for 10 billion light-years? Together, Earth's 0.001mm-long microbes could wrap around the Milky Way over 20,000 times.

Microscopic Marvels is an educational exhibit that brings the hidden world of bacteria to life through vibrant digital graphics and playful illustrations. Designed to make learning about good and bad bacteria engaging, the exhibit uses large-scale digital walls to showcase their unique shapes, functions, and roles in everyday life. Set within dark, black-walled rooms, the vivid visuals stand out, creating a fully immersive environment that transforms microbiology into an exciting visual journey. This app is meant to give entertainers tools that an agency may not. These tools give entertainers more transparency into potential events, giving them the choice to accept jobs or not based on how comfortable they are. Go Glow offers more privacy for their contact information, accountability to both parties by collecting reviews and identification, and cuts out the middle man. This allows the entertainer to be in control of their work and collect fees before they show up to an event, which is rare in the current market. Go Glow connects entertainers with security services to bolster their safety for an event they feel in control of. Most important of all, Go Glow was created for safety, financial control and personal agency.

Did you know that the human eye is more powerful than a supercomputer?

Prompted with the creation of a designed deliverable based upon a fun fact, I created Chromeye, a board game that puts human vision to the test. Upon researching the key differences between image processing in the human eye versus in computers, I discovered that computers, no matter how powerful they may be, often struggle to identify images in fragments or out of context. Humans have lifetimes of trained experience in object recognition that computers are unable to replicate, purely because of the decades of experience. Chromeye uses this knowledge to create fragmented images of environments, or our physical contexts, that players compete to put together before other players. However, there is a twist! Each player wears a pair of colored glasses, making their view of the game’s cards entirely unique from other players. So, are you ready to see the world through a different lens?

Inclusive Design

Teachers play a crucial role in meeting the diverse and unique needs of students, which requires them to seek, develop, test, and adopt new strategies and materials constantly. In this project, students partnered with Green Tree School and Services and Jefferson Autism Center of Excellence (JeffACE). Students focused on empowering educators by designing a comprehensive system of educational tools and resources tailored to support students with autism and emotional support needs. The goal is to enhance the learning experience and emotional well-being of these students by creating accessible, inclusive, and engaging materials that can be seamlessly integrated into daily teaching practices.

Throughout this project, students explored how visual communication design can significantly contribute to accessibility, not only by making content accessible but also by ensuring that the design process itself is inclusive.

Green Tree is a school that offers educational, behavioral, and clinical services for students with significant autism support and emotional support needs. Hygiene Heroes supports students with ASD that informs them of the importance of good hygiene and how to put these methods into practice to become more independent. There are three categories in Hygiene Heros, bathroom hygiene focuses on reminders of the steps to use the bathroom and tools for teachers to use like fun timers. Classroom hygiene focuses on keeping the classroom, personal desk, and book bag organized and finally personal hygiene focuses on taking care of yourself to stay clean and healthy. This includes tasks like washing your hands, brushing your teeth, and wearing clean clothes.

Created in collaboration with Green Tree Schools, we designed a system for travel training to address safety, preparing for transportation, and the travel process itself. This program focuses on promoting independence and confidence in transportation amongst high school students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnoses. We designed a series of interactive worksheets that can be implemented in classrooms for students with ASD to simulate the process of traveling on SEPTA. We also created onboarding booklets to help teachers, parents, and other guardians guide students through the process of navigation apps such as Transit, Google Maps, Apple Maps, and the SEPTA app. Our main goal was to provide resources with customizable features to meet the diverse needs of users.
