Sophomore Review S20

Based on the way you prioritized the features of your service/app, I am asking you to select an aspect that best captures your service. For a lot of people this has been an on-boarding process. Other’s a more specific aspect of their app. You’re might begin with a search and then end with watching a show/movie. This sequence might show how your app eliminates the pain point you identified in your interview.

SOPHOMORE SHOWCASE

Project: Collection Catalog & Website

Collections can come in many different varieties, from different subject matter to different sizes, scopes and scale. We are all collectors in different ways, and for this project students were asked to look at what makes a collection; to look at the characteristics of a collection closely from multiple perspectives, and possibly from different contexts. What might the opportunity be to enhance the narrative of the collection whether historical, cultural, or otherwise? Students were tasked with designing an Exhibition Catalogue and companion Exhibition Website. Working predominantly typographically, additional emphasis was also put on giving the collection visual form.

Project: Environmental Infographic

Information Design reveals the hidden, can explain the complex and illuminate the obscure. Constructing visual representations of information is not a mere translation of what can be read to what can be seen. It entails filtering the information, establishing relationships, discerning patterns and representing them in a manner that enables the audience to construct meaningful knowledge. For this assignment, students were tasked with researching a topic of their choosing; breaking down the information to a form that was deliverable, visible, and understandable to an audience; and designing an information graphic to be located somewhere on campus, solved predominantly typographically.
